Positive Daily Three – Cleaning Day

So I know I usually take Friday nights off from blogging, but I mopped myself into the corner by the computer, so I figured I might as well use my time wisely.  Today was the first time since we moved into our new place that I took the time to clean it from top to bottom thoroughly.  I clean it in pieces, usually, but today I just had to get the entire thing clean.  Before I met my husband, I guess you could say I was a neat freak.  I still am to an extent.  I like being organized and having a space for every thing.  I like always knowing where things are.  That’s just how I’ve always been.  When I was growing up, I had to share a room with both of my sisters.  Space was cramped and there was no such thing as having a neat and orderly room because everything was always cluttered.  I think that might be why I developed what some might believe is mild OCD when I started living on my own.

The good news is, I am almost done and feel very satisfied.  I just have one more corner (the one I am currently occupying) to mop and I will be done.  Doing a deep clean is like therapy for me.  I don’t know why, but it’s the reorganizing and feeling like I am getting rid of the clutter and things that are not necessary (mostly toys that the kids haven’t touched in months, maybe even years).    I am happy I am so close to completing what I set out to do today.

I know that my youngest was happy she got to watch shows for the majority of the day, but it always makes me feel a little guilty when I let her watch more than one or two shows.  I’d rather be taking her to the park or outside, and reading books.  Sometimes, though, if I really feel the need to get something done, I bite the bullet and let the television entertain her for a few hours.

After I picked my son up from school, I got my cracked windshield replaced, and the kids got to play outside for a couple hours with our neighborhood friends.  I loved seeing them outside running around after my youngest was stuck inside for the first part of the day.  They played in the backyard while I made dinner and cleaned up the kitchen a little bit.

In an effort to allow me the opportunity to clean the upstairs, I let them watch a movie after dinner.  They changed into their pajamas and brushed their teeth, and got to watch Disney’s Robin Hood.  They were excited and I was able to clean the entire upstairs area.

I got to snuggle with them after I put them to bed.  My oldest got to go to a Panic! At the Disco concert tonight with her friend, so I am sure she is walking on clouds.  The fact that I was able to get all the cleaning done today means that we can enjoy the weekend and go out and have fun, and I don’t have to worry about how I am going to get the house cleaned.  Happy weekend everyone!
